TAFE – Save or lose it

The vocational training sector has reached its tipping point. In the past five years courses have been cut, campuses closed and enrolments have been down 25 per cent. Due to the critical decline, it is leaving thousands of young people with little opportunity for training and jobs. International vocational training expert Leesa Wheelahan said, “We’re at a tipping point right. We can either save TAFE or we’ll lose it.” State governments deny TAFE is in decline and are heavily subsidising courses in areas of skills shortage.
